When I graduated, I was awarded the Ken Lepin Nursing Excellence Award and that was like winning the Nobel Prize to me. It meant so much, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to give back to the School of Nursing and the community of Kamloops that shaped so much of who I am.

After receiving the TRU Alumni Scholarship, Bachelor of Science student Marija wrote this note to the alumni donors that support this award:
Dear TRU Alumni Association,
I would like to write a warm, heartfelt thank you for choosing me to accept this award. I have been attending TRU since I was a teenager — taking babysitting courses, finishing high school through TRU's HCA program, and now, taking on a four-year Bachelor of Science degree with a major in animal biology. TRU always had a special place in my heart due to its close-knit community and ability to focus on each student... Winning this award means being able to continue my pursuit towards becoming a future marine biologist.
Independently supporting myself has been a journey all on its own, so receiving some help will allow me to focus more on the studies that will propel me towards the field I love so dearly.
Thank you once more for your support and belief in my dreams,
Marija
Whether you give once, support monthly, or make alumni giving part of your annual tradition, you join a community of alumni helping students succeed.
I want to do something to express my gratitude and let other students know that if they keep putting in effort, they will succeed. And when they do, I hope they’ll carry forward this spirit of love and resilience, sharing it with others.
